A Memorial.

The Know Their Names Project is born out of a need for recognition of and meditation upon the simple and tragic facts surrounding the current war in Iraq. Without taking sides or preaching positions, this project seeks to make known through the US mail the names of the countless civilians who have lost their lives as a result of this ongoing international conflict.

Rather than allow these individuals to be dismissed or forgotten, The Know Their Names Project offers an opportunity for reflection on their names. Where immeasurable numbers fail to communicate the size of this human loss, each postcard in this project provides a space for each individual lost to be remembered as a human being with a name of her or his own.

In this way, we might gain insight into the paths these names have traveled, and how they truly connect us in ways that, sadly, we often ignore.
